If a ticket type has presale codes enabled, you'll see it clearly labelled "Presale code required" on the event page, with a field right there to enter yours.
Enter the code and it'll unlock that ticket type straight away if it's valid, ready to add to your basket as normal. If it doesn't work, you'll see a message telling you why, so you're not left guessing.
If you don't have a code to hand, it's worth checking wherever the promoter or artist shares them, a mailing list, fan club, or social media are all common ways they get sent out. Without one, that ticket type simply won't unlock for you yet.
